Wirral Unplugged, one of the lead organisations of Wirral MakeFest, won Organisation of the Year at Liverpool John Moores Student Union’s Societies and Volunteering Awards! The award was given for Wirral Unplugged’s support for students and staff parents and carers and their families for Welcome week and Christmas events. Families came to the Student Union where Diana and Wirral Unplugged volunteers explored Vikings (and the Wirral) and Victorian Christmas through games, crafts and activities. LJMU students and staff who attended these events commented on how inclusive and supportive the events were, and how helpful it was to meet other parent-carers and relax together as a family.

Dr Diana Powell, founder and CEO of Wirral Unplugged said, ‘Thank you to the many families who cheer us on, but especially to the LJMU parents and carers who nominated us! It was amazing to meet you and bring our games, activities and materials that help families explore and connect to Liverpool. As our first award, it was so meaningful to receive it from both university students and families, the two key groups we support!’
