We are delighted that Wirral MakeFest will be part of the Liverpool City Region Borough of Culture for 2024. The Williamson Art Gallery & Museum and Birkenhead Central Library are back on board for another day of fun on the 1st of June 2024.
For a number of months, I have been part of the Borough of Culture Steering Committee and Sustainability sub-committee. The group of leaders from organisations and events, as well as myself and others representing the voluntary, community and faith sector, have met every few weeks to discuss projects, volunteering, sustainability, funding and Wirral Borough Council and the community events programme. Additionally, a small grants fund is due to be launched in February to help people connect through creativity across Wirral.
Borough of Culture is funded by the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority as part of its cultural offer, with support from Wirral Council. Previously, Wirral hosted a year of celebration in 2019, prior to the lockdown years. This short video highlights some of the amazing events that were organised in that Borough of Culture year. I was part of the team that helped deliver the year along with a wonderful team of creatives and volunteers.
