Christchurch Poppies in PortSunlight
From humble beginnings, they hope to create a river of poppies using donated red and black. Celebrating the heroes -past and present opposite the wonderful memorial window in Birkenhead Central Library.
For a little bit of background to link into our STEAM theme and to reflect maths – did you know about the process of making shapes in knitting is achieved by using increases and decreases. Increases add to the number of stitches in a row, and decreases, lessen the number of stitches in a row. Both processes create mathematical curvature in the knitted fabric.
And for those of you more interested in crochet -did you know that that process uses more yarn than knitting. In general, you can expect crochet projects to use 25-30% more yarn than a knitting project of the same size, depending on the stitch pattern.
Sadly we have had a last minute cancellation from this maker, but we will exhibited knitted poppies from the library and can collect red and black yarn for them which we will take to them at a later date. If you have yarn to donate, please make sure it is clean and able to be unravelled easily from a ball without tangles.
