Bidston Observatory Artistic Research Centre (BOARC) is a self-organising, communal study site. It is a not-for-profit project that focuses on providing individual users and groups with a low cost, temporary place to work and stay together; to develop projects that require time and space in a flexible, non-pressured environment.
They will showing demonstrations of 2 or 3 sound visualisation equipment and explaining theory, using victorian equipment.
BOARC are part of the Shift Liverpool sustainability network. As a working space, they especially welcome ecological research projects, serving to make this space as accessible as possible to groups and individuals with this focus. This year, their AGE (annual general exchange) event 2023 will focus on ecology and are arranging to host several speakers on this subject. Last year’s event promoted composting techniques in humanure. They have a working compost and food growing practice on-site. Their events focus around bringing interest and involvement to these in-house resources.
In making the sound imaging equipment, they have tried to source as many materials as possible through websites such a Freecycle and have used second hand items where possible.
