Textile and clothing transformation from Mandy at Purple Monkey Crewe. Every year, the UK sends tonnes of textiles to landfill. But why are so many clothes and textile items going to landfill when they can be transformed with some simple or complex creative solutions.
” Some of my creations feature hand embroidery and Japanese Sashiko stitching and Boro techniques, which adds scrap fabric patches to old worn out garments to repair and add strength. The layers are attached with hand stitching which is both functional and decorative. I hope to be able to show some of my new products using pre loved denim.
I will be making some denim patches and will have some upcycled kits available for £1 for people to take home. They will make basic hand stitched denim patch to repair their own garment or add decoration to a garment or bag ”
Mandy will be showing off her creations and encouraging you to try your hand at up-cycling at Birkenhead Central Library, Saturday 10th of May, 10am until 4pm.
