Following on from “Saving Ron’s Place”/ ‘Inspired by Ron’s” fantastic fortnight taking over the Open Mic nights at Future Yard, Michelle Wright will be joining us to host a poetry workshop within our performance space in Gallery 11. Ron’s inspiration will also be represented in Gallery 1 at the Williamson.
Suitable for absolute beginners as well as more experienced poets and writers, this session is designed to get your creative juices flowing. Come and join us for a fun and creative workshop where you can explore your own artistic expression inspired by Ron’s Place.
You will see how Ron Gittins transformed his home into a colourful and imaginative wonderland, using art and words to express his views and challenge the norms. You will discover his influences from ancient civilisations to underwater creatures. You will also learn about his passion for language and words, his prolific letter writing, reading and composing poetry.
This workshop was originally scheduled in conjunction with the recent exhibition at Future Walls Gallery space at Future Yard, as part of the Inspired by Ron’s Place residency and exhibition. Using photographs and artworks that capture Ron’s unique style and vision, you will have the opportunity to use different materials and techniques to create your own work and words inspired by Ron.
A unique individual – a scholar of languages and wordsmith – Ron used Art and Words to express his views of the world around him and to challenge the idea that we should all fit into a box of societies making.
Don’t be afraid to unleash your ‘Inner Ron’ and express yourself freely through feelings, words and poems. Ron was a one-of-a-kind character who added to the colour of Oxton, the Wirral and Merseyside.
Come and celebrate his writings and legacy with us!
